New Hampshire Energy Market Update | September 2026

New Hampshire Businesses should continue to watch for major changes across the New England energy market as electricity supply rates continue to increase. Eversource, Unitil, and Liberty Utilities all raised their default supply rates this month, which reflect higher than expected from the previous 18 months. On September 18, the Transmission Initiative Down East (TIDE) project was announced to expand transmission capacity between Maine and New Hampshire. Eversource says the project could allow up to 1,2000 MW of future wind generation in northern New England and is expected to provide $1.42 billion in production costs and savings. As market regulations continue to impact upcoming power rates, businesses in New Hampshire should keep an eye on supply rate changes, transmission developments, and opportunities to manage long-term energy costs.

How NH Energy Deregulation Benefits Businesses

For over two decades, businesses and residents have had the power to choose their preferred energy suppliers in NH. Understanding how the NH energy market works empowers you to make smarter energy choices that lead to long-term savings and stability.

How Does New Hampshire’s Electric Choice Program Work?

What is the Role of New Hampshire’s Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS)?

New Hampshire’s RPS requires energy suppliers to source 25.2% of their power from renewable resources by 2025. This policy aims to reduce the state’s carbon footprint and encourage more sustainable energy options in the market.

What Does the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission Do?

The New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission protects consumers by overseeing the deregulated energy market. This agency ensures that customers receive safe and reliable utility services at fair prices.

How Does the New Hampshire Electric Co-Op (NHEC) support EV Adoption?

The NHEC program encourages electric vehicle (EV) adoption by offering up to a $300 rebate for home charging systems and additional incentives for businesses to encourage cleaner transportation choices.

Are There Any Incentive Programs for Clean Energy in New Hampshire?

Yes! There are a wide range of green energy tax credits, rebates, and other financial incentives to help offset the cost of efficiency upgrades or renewable energy systems. Discover available incentives near you through the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE).

How Do New Hampshire’s Winters Affect Energy Rates?

New Hampshire’s harsh, snowy winters cause increased heating needs that strain the power grid, resulting in seasonal rate hikes. Protect your home or business from expensive winter energy bills by choosing a fixed-rate electricity or natural gas plan.
